LaVa: fundamental research on historical, structural and social dimensions of language variation
The CLIN members within the reseach strand "LaVa" carry out fundamental research on historical, structural and social dimensions of language variation. LaVa members are ideally situated within the multicultural and polyglot setting of Brussels, and more broadly within the Belgian context. LaVa aims at strengthening the research ‘niches’ which distinguish the Centre for Linguistics at the VUB from comparable units at other universities. Given the young age of many LaVa members, a substantial part of the research strands defined above reflect new and budding research (next to established research traditions). LaVa members are actively setting up a series of cross-European initiatives to enlarge their research specialisms, making the VUB an increasingly important player in the field.
